“Draadje met een praatje” in Aalsmeer

In Aalsmeer, we’re creating a giant stitched artwork that celebrates both the town’s famous flowers and its deep-rooted sense of community.
Gerda was invited to design a project inspired by Aalsmeer’s floral history. During her research, she discovered something just as striking: the many people who have quietly and consistently given their time to local life. From volunteers at the historical gardens and flour mill to members of the stamp collectors club.
In response, she designed giant stitched flowers that not only reflect Aalsmeer’s botanical past, but also symbolise community spirit and local tradition.
We’re now stitching the artwork together with residents during events and festivals across Aalsmeer. Once finished, the final piece will be proudly displayed at the Flower Art Museum.
